An invader (but not due to ruderalization) especially in
xeric and mesoxeric grasslands which was widely cultivated in Europe
during the Middle Age a source of a blue paint. It is said to be
native to SW Asia with some local subspecies in Greece and Krym. In
the arid steppes from North America since the 60s of the XXth
century this invasive plant became an ecological calamity.
